Why Video Is Shallower — and Why Social Media Is Worth Avoiding

Video and text are not simply two different containers for the same information. They encourage different mental habits. Compared with serious reading, video tends to be a shallower medium for processing complex ideas, and short-form social video pushes that tendency much further. Social media can still contain useful things: firsthand reports, breaking news, unusual experiences, and information that has not yet reached books or traditional media. But usefulness does not make the medium harmless....

Bad experience of Facebook

I deleted the FaceBook icon on the homepage. Started two weeks ago, my Facebook account has been suspended for three times. For the first time, I’ve experienced the situation that no one could find my name and message me on this disgusting platform and all of contents of the account are not visible. Facebook said that I violated their policy but they didn’t tell any clear reason. I think that all of my activities on it are normal....

Mastodon

Removed some plugins from my blog. Added options for foreign languages. Added the Mastodon icon and removed the YouTube icon. Tried out Mastodon, a decentralized social networking software. I think it is a good alternative to Twitter.
