Building Site

After several days of burning the midnight oil, I finally finished migrating my commenting system, adding custom buttons to my site, and implementing several other features. The new commenting system, Waline, supports reactions and comes with a clean, elegant interface. I also added floating buttons at the bottom of each page—a table of contents button and a comment button—so visitors can quickly jump to the sections they want. If articles on different language websites have similar content, the comment sections will be merged together....

After several days of painstaking work, I finally moved from WordPress to Hugo. Due to the fact that my server is very slow, I think I can focus on writing offline and concentrate on content, rather than adjusting features. There are many features that I find unnecessary, such as commentator ranking. The tree map of categories is also not that useful, because it’s hard to maintain the database. After switching to Hugo to manage my posts, I can organize them more easily....

Last week I went through a serious problem of my server, on which my website runs. It started with the problem of the version of PHP. The edition of the current PHP is very old and it couldn’t support the running of some plugins. Then I tried to install a new version of PHP, but it didn’t work. When I tried to uninstall the old version, the server crashed and could not be restarted due to an error called “kernel panic”....

Changed the title of the English website.

I haven’t updated my status in a long time. I don’t know when it happened, but I’ve lost the ability to express my feelings and the motivation to share… Recently, I discovered that many functions were no longer working. It took a long time to fix them, otherwise this place would have been overgrown with weeds. I’ve noticed many people are starting to use LinkTree as a personal homepage to aggregate numerous links....

Added progress bars and more social icons for home page. Added the feature which can share posts on Mastodon.

I tried opening a Telegram channel. I found that creating a channel on Telegram is very quick, and broadcasting to others is also very fast. Most importantly, the platform is open, and after adding the bot function, updates from my personal website can be automatically synchronized to the channel. Now, coupled with the real-time message reception, Telegram’s functionality surpasses many other communication software programs. I highly recommend trying it!

Totally separated my blog into two subsites– English site and Chinese site. It’s more convenient for viewers to choose their familiar language. Added the language switcher menu.

Removed some plugins from my blog. Added options for foreign languages. Added the Mastodon icon and removed the YouTube icon. Tried out Mastodon, a decentralized social networking software. I think it is a good alternative to Twitter.
