Video and text are not simply two different containers for the same information. They encourage different mental habits. Compared with serious reading, video tends to be a shallower medium for processing complex ideas, and short-form social video pushes that tendency much further. Social media can still contain useful things: firsthand reports, breaking news, unusual experiences, and information that has not yet reached books or traditional media. But usefulness does not make the medium harmless....

There are a lot of distractions on digital devices now. I wanted to take a break from it....

I deleted the FaceBook icon on the homepage. Started two weeks ago, my Facebook account has been suspended for three times. For the first time, I’ve experienced the situation that no one could find my name and message me on this disgusting platform and all of contents of the account are not visible. Facebook said that I violated their policy but they didn’t tell any clear reason. I think that all of my activities on it are normal....

Grammar checker These days I was thinking of stopping using grammar checker. Writing skill is gained by practicing. We should make a lot of mistakes and face challenges of expressing our ideas when we are learning a language. Is it really necessary to use grammar checker when we are writing ? I guess it’s not. Why not keep the originality of my own writings. After polishments of this writings some of them even couldn’t pass the AI detection....

Updated my now page. Deleted other fields. Very tired now… I’m thinking of using plain text as my to-do list. Now my pages and post are the same with my diaries. They are all using plain texts now.

After spending a long time using Codex to build my website, I realized how strong my desire was to add all kinds of features. I kept spending time tweaking the site, and I couldn’t tolerate even the tiniest bugs.

Recently, many graduates have been booing speakers when they mention AI or express optimism about the future of AI. A lot of content has been generated by AI since 2022. There are even many AI-generated videos, and some TV series are being created with AI instead of being produced by human actors. This is not only happening with written content. AI already seems to be integrated into modern life, just like the Internet....

I spent a lot of time downloading comic books. My habit of collecting things without actually using or reading them is becoming stronger again. Recently, I started using Markor, and I found that Markor is a great tool when combined with Termux. The writing workflow feels very smooth now. It also provides templates when I create a file, so I don’t need to fill in the slug and translationKey manually....

I made two small but important improvements to this site today: I moved the Chinese web font to local files, and I rewrote the word-counting logic. The Chinese pages had been using KingHwa OldSong through an external CDN. In theory this was convenient, but in practice it was fragile. If the CDN was blocked, slow, changed domains, or returned an error, the browser would fall back to a system font. That made the site look different from what I intended....
